Under rules of physics, the vertical position of the object is affected only by a constant acceleration, and horizontal velocity is also normally constant. Free-fall is experienced not only by objects falling downward, but also by all objects whose motion is influenced by gravitational force alone. For free-falling bodies, the acceleration due to gravity is constant, irrespective of their mass. Rearrange the equation to solve for the position as this is one of the factors that will connect both parts of this problem.
